MakerLAB Tools is a conversational AI guide to making at Cornell Tech: the site you are on. It connects students to the MakerLAB inventory, equipment specifications, setup instructions, troubleshooting and maintenance support, in plain language and in multiple languages.
The catalogue started as a structured Notion database and is exposed through a live Model Context Protocol (MCP) server, so it can also be used from LLM clients such as Claude and ChatGPT. Visitors can browse the tools, scope a project that spans several machines, or troubleshoot a 3D printer problem with the assistant.
This is a software project; the screenshot shows the Tools // Machines catalogue with its search, category, material and location filters.
Tip: ask the assistant to plan a project end to end ("I want to make a laser-cut box with a 3D-printed hinge"); it will point you to the machines, training and resources you need.
